The Ray County Senior Services Board (RCSSB) prepared and disseminated a brief, one-page survey or questionaire seeking the opinions of senior citizens in Ray County as to the services they feel they need in order to remain independent and healthy.

The survey was included in the April mailing of the City of Richmond water bills, thanks to the cooperation of City Administrator Rick Childers and City staffers; this put the survey in approximately 2500 City homes and businesses with RCSSB paying one-half of the cost of mailing.

The Richmond Daily News printed the survey in one of its editions at no cost to the RCSS Board; the Daily News circulation is over 2000 throughoout Ray County. The Lawson Review used the survey as an insert in one of its editions at a cost of $100 to the RCSSB.

In an attempt to give as many seniors in Ray County an opportunity to be heard via the survey, Board members also distributed the survey in local and area churches, senior citizen housing complexes and health offices as well as other places frequented by seniors such as the Ray County Fellowship Center.

These efforts to distribute the survey as widely as possible throughout Ray County led to a response of 520 surveys, mainly from senior citizens.  The RCSSB will consider these responses when they determine how and where to expend the tax dollars they will receive for 2009.

The results of this survey have been published in the Richmond Daily News and may be viewed on this website through the following link: 2009 Ray County Senior Survey results*
